Mini Tummy Tuck in Macon, GA
Sagging skin in the lower abdominal region is a problem for many people. For some, there may be a significant amount of flabby skin and fat folds. Others may just have a small area of fat or lax skin that won’t disappear with diet and exercise. For the latter group, a mini tummy tuck may be the solution. Serving Macon, Warner Robins, Bibb County, Houston County and the surrounding area, the Georgia Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery provides mini tummy tucks for patients who desire flat abs. Let Dr. Joshua R. Groves, a board certified plastic surgeon, get your tummy in tip-top shape!
What Is a Mini Tummy Tuck/Abdominoplasty?
Much like a traditional tummy tuck, a mini tummy tuck is a procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the lower part of the abdomen and tightens the abdominal muscles. The procedure differs from the traditional tummy tuck in that it is less extensive, can usually be done using local anesthesia, requires less surgical time, and can be performed using a smaller incision. The recovery time is much shorter, as well.
In a mini tummy tuck, the belly button is not repositioned, which is required for a full tummy tuck. Liposuction is often performed at the same time to facilitate optimal results.
What Can I Expect After My Mini Tummy Tuck/Abdominoplasty?
You will most likely be allowed to go home a few hours after your abdominoplasty. You may experience swelling, tenderness and some discomfort, but many patients get relief from over-the-counter pain relievers. Dr. Groves will assess your situation and prescribe pain medication, if necessary.
You will have small sutures at the incision site, and the incision will be covered with bandages. You may have drains placed at the surgical site to allow excess fluid to drain, and you may be required to wear a compression garment to aid in the healing process.
Most patients feel well enough to resume their normal activities in about a week, but you should refrain from strenuous activities for at least two weeks following your abdominoplasty.
You’ll notice the difference in your stomach immediately after your procedure, but it will take a few weeks for all of the swellings to subside. When it does, you’ll see a tighter, firmer belly.
Is a Mini Tummy Tuck/Abdominoplasty Right for Me?
During your consultation, Dr. Groves will explain the differences between a full tummy tuck and a mini tummy tuck and discuss which abdominoplasty option is right for you.
Ideal candidates for mini tummy tuck surgery are those in good overall health who have a positive outlook and realistic expectations. They should also meet the following criteria:
- Have excess skin below the navel
- Have loose skin that has lost elasticity. Factors that can contribute to a loss of elasticity include genetics, recent weight loss or pregnancy
- Have excess skin in the lower abdomen that doesn’t respond to exercise and dieting
