Fat Transfer & Injections in Macon, GA
Many of our patients are plagued with sunken, hollow cheeks, yet have excess fat in their thighs or abdomen. Fat transfers and injections can help resolve both of these issues, and can be safely performed at the Georgia Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Led by Dr. Joshua R. Groves, board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, we have helped men and women in Macon, Warner Robins, Houston County, Bibb County and the surrounding area achieve an overall younger appearance through fat grafting procedures.
What are Fat Transfers and Injections?
Fat transfers and injections are two-step procedures that remove fat from one area of the body and inject it into another. It is often performed to enhance areas of the face such as the cheeks that have a loss in volume that is caused by aging. While fat is most often injected into the face, it can actually be placed in any area of the body. Since it utilizes the body’s own fat, the procedure is considered one of the safest procedures available, as there is little to no chance of rejection.
Benefits of Fat Grafting
Fat grafting procedures help reduce problem areas such as the thighs, buttocks, or abdomen while also restoring natural contours to other areas. It provides immediate, long-lasting results that also appear very natural. Fat transfer and injections are able to reduce signs of aging in areas where other fillers are not normally effective, such as the hands.
Requirements for Fat Transfers and Injections
To be a good candidate for a fat transfer, you should be in relatively good health and have an ample supply of excess fat in one or more areas of your body. Keep in mind that while fat grafting can reduce problem areas, it is not a substitute for diet and exercise. You should be committed to a healthy lifestyle if you are to maintain your results.
Are Fat Transfers and Injections Right for Me?
Fat transfers and injections may be the ideal choice if you:
- Have certain areas with less volume and wish to regain a firmer, plumper appearance
- Want to reduce problem areas, and are discouraged because diet and exercise have not provided you with the results you desire
- Are concerned about the potential side effects from other dermal fillers
How Involved is a Fat Grafting Procedure?
Fat grafting is one of the more invasive procedures performed here at the Georgia Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and may be performed under general or local anesthesia. It first requires liposuction to remove unwanted fat cells from a particular area of your body. This requires one or more incisions to allow Dr. Groves to insert a cannula, which is a thin tube used to suction fat cells.
The fat cells are purified and injected into the treatment area. Depending upon the results you desire, more than one injection may be needed.
How Long is the Recovery After Fat Transfers and Injections?
Since fat grafting requires small incisions to harvest the fat, the recovery period is quite a bit longer than with other injectables. You may experience swelling, bruising and tenderness for three to four weeks afterwards, and may also need to limit your activities until after your follow-up examination with Dr. Groves. During your recovery period, you should wear compression garments as recommended and take medication to alleviate swelling and discomfort. Dr. Groves may insert one or more tubes into your skin to help with drainage. If so, these must be kept clean and dry until it is time for their removal.
How Much Does Fat Transfers and Injections Cost?
The cost of your procedure will depend on the amount of fat being removed and then re-injected. During your consultation, we will discuss the cost, and go over our payment options to find one that best suits your needs.
