What is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, eliminates sagging skin around the upper eye area by removing skin and deposits of fatty tissue that build up around the eyes. This procedure is usually performed on patients who suffer from puffy bags under the eyes, or whose upper eyelids droop or sag into their eyes, causing an aged and tired appearance, and in some cases, obstructing their vision. Many patients complain of drooping eyelids that make them appear older and less alert. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, helps patients look more youthful and alert by eliminating unsightly sagging, droopy eyelids, restoring a more youthful appearance.
Benefits of Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery, effectively and permanently corrects the sagging excess skin above the eye, making patients appear much younger, more alert, and less tired by correcting unsightly bags of loose skin and fatty deposits around the eyes. Blepharoplasty removes:
- Excess skin from the upper eyelids
- Loose skin and fatty deposits from the lower eyelids
- Bags of skin from the lower eyelid
Is Blepharoplasty Right For Me?
Blepharoplasty may be performed on either the upper or lower eyelids or both. Many patients elect blepharoplasty to eliminate sagging skin and rejuvenate drooping eyelids. In some cases, sagging eyelids may even affect a patient’s ability to see clearly, while sagging skin under the eyes imparts a look of exhaustion. Blepharoplasty may be performed on women and men who enjoy general good health, although it may not be recommended for patients who suffer from certain health conditions, such as glaucoma and other conditions affecting the eyes. Patients should be aware that blepharoplasty corrects the eyelids, but not problems in the surrounding areas, such as “crow’s feet” at the corners of the eyes. In many cases, blepharoplasty may be combined with a brow lift or other facial surgery to correct all facial imperfections during one treatment.
How Is Blepharoplasty Performed?
Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is a common, safe, and simple procedure performed in under three hours, and is considered minimally invasive. The procedure is done through small incisions in the natural skin creases of the eyelid or behind the lower eyelid. Excess fat and skin are trimmed away to make the eyelids smoother and firmer. The incisions are closed with small sutures or surgical tape.
How Long Is The Recovery Period After Blepharoplasty?
The majority of patients take approximately one week to recover after having blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery. During the recovery period, we may provide medications such as antiseptic eye drops or ointment to alleviate any discomfort and minimize the risk of infection. Surgical tape may be used to support the eyelids as they heal. You will also be advised to keep your head and neck elevated during recovery, and avoid touching or irritating the eye area.
How Much Does Blepharoplasty Cost in Macon?
Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is a personalized procedure and may be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Correcting both sets of eyelids will naturally be more expensive than procedures to correct one or the other. Although many cosmetic procedures aren’t covered by health insurance when done as elective procedures, Georgia Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery makes eyelid surgery accessible to all patients by providing flexible financing via CareCredit® and Alphaeon™Credit. We work with SunTrust Bank to offer low, fixed interest rate loans to patients with good to excellent credit for all cosmetic procedures, and also accept cash, personal checks, MasterCard®, Visa®, American Express®, and Discover® Card.
