Breast Augmentation in Macon, GA
Women often notice a reduction in breast volume over time. Many of them visit the Georgia Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Joshua R. Groves. Over the years, Dr. Groves has helped women in Macon, Warner Robins, Houston County, Bibb County and the surrounding area regain lost volume through breast augmentation procedures performed at our clinic.
What is a Breast Augmentation?
A breast augmentation involves adding implants to enhance the size or shape of the breasts. Pregnancy, fluctuating hormones, breastfeeding, and excessive weight loss can result in reduced breast volume that becomes more pronounced over time. This causes a self-esteem issue for many women, as a voluptuous bosom is generally considered a sign of femininity.
Benefits of Breast Augmentation
- A breast augmentation can:
- Correct differences in size
- Restore lost volume
- Enhance the chest area after a full or partial mastectomy
- Improve self-esteem
Requirements for Breast Augmentation
To have a breast augmentation, you should not have any underlying medical conditions that might cause complications with anesthesia. If you smoke or take certain medications, Dr. Groves may ask to you stop temporarily in the weeks leading up to your surgery. If you are currently undergoing chemotherapy or radiation for breast cancer, Dr. Groves will work with your primary care physician to develop a timeline for treatment.
Is a Breast Augmentation Right for Me?
You should have realistic expectations for your breast augmentation procedure. The increase in volume you experience will be based on your anatomy and the amount of existing breast tissue you have. Therefore, if you currently have very small breasts, it is unlikely that breast augmentation surgery will make you overly voluptuous. It can, however, increase volume and give your breasts a fuller, more youthful appearance.
How Involved is a Breast Augmentation Procedure?
A breast augmentation procedure is one of the most involved surgeries performed here at the Georgia Center for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Under general or local anesthesia, Dr. Groves will make one of the following incisions in each of your breasts:
- Along the inframammary crease, which is the area where the bottom of your breast meets the chest wall
- A periareolar incision around the bottom edge of the areola
Next, Dr. Groves will create a pocket for your implants. He may create this pocket underneath the pectoral muscle (submuscular placement), or on top of the pectoral muscle but behind your breast tissue (subglandular placement.) Sutures are then used to close the skin and breast tissue. A complete breast augmentation procedure can take up to two hours.
How Long is the Recovery After a Breast Augmentation?
You may feel very sore after a breast augmentation, which is why we recommend having someone available to drive you home from your appointment and to help you around the house for a few days afterward. You may need to limit yourself to only light activity for four to six weeks following your surgery, and may also need to wear a compression garment and take medication to help alleviate swelling.
How Much Does a Breast Augmentation Cost?
Breast augmentation procedures are customized for each patient, so giving you an exact cost up front is not possible. During your consultation, we will discuss the cost, and go over our payment options to find one that best suits your needs.
Some procedures may be covered by medical insurance. Our staff is experienced in matters pertaining to insurance, and will work with your carrier to get you maximum coverage. In the event a procedure is not covered, we offer financing through CareCredit® and Alphaeon™Credit. We will be happy to assist in filling out the necessary application, or you may apply on the CareCredit® website prior to your appointment. We work with SunTrust Bank to offer low, fixed interest rate loans to patients with good to excellent credit for all cosmetic procedures, and also accept cash, personal checks, MasterCard®, Visa®, American Express®, and Discover® Card.
